One Sunday afternoon, the weather being fine and the breeze gentle, we took a trip to a small village several miles from the city. On the way we talked and laughed, too excited to feel tired. As we were all born in the city and have lived in the city ever since, we always want to visit the country, which has an eternal charm to us. So whenever we have a chance, we’d like to see a new village. Upon entering the village, we saw the houses, standing separately in lines which stretched across the whole village. They were built of yellow bricks and white stones. In the center of the village, there was a small pond with a few geese swimming to and fro on the water. They appeared to be happy.

We walked on our-way to a level spot and took a rest. We listened to the songs of the birds and the murmur of the streams. When the sun was going down, we saw at a distance a few little boys on cow backs, singing and laughing happily on their way home. We enjoyed the sight of the village so much that we decided to come back again some day.

 

 

Over the last 20 years, the English language has become the nearest thing to an international language for the world. Since1960, there has been an increase of 40% in the people using English, so that now it is estimated that about 350 million people speak English as their first language, and about the same number of people speak it as their second language. It’s the language of aviation with pilots being trained in English so they can understand flight controllers at international airports across the world. It’s the language of sport with many international rules and commentaries being written and given in English. It’s the language of pop music because most popular music groups come from American偶然England. 75% of the world’s mail is written in English, 60% of the world’s radio stations broadcast in English. It’s the official language of 44 countries. In fact, nowadays, if you are thinking of expanding your business outside your own country, there is a strong chance that you will conduct that business in English, and you’ll be at a disadvantage if you don’t speak it.

 

It is the duty of every man to work. Every one should learn some useful things when he is young. Just like a student should go to school in their childhood.

But it is not enough that a person should only learn some kind of work. He should devote himself to his work with a strong will, and not waste his any time at all. There is an English proverb “Lost time never returns”. This means that everybody must be diligent, and must make a good use of his time. One must study hard when he is young, so that he may succeed in his life and become useful to this society.

There is no better aid to diligence than the habit of early rising and early to bed, like all other good habits, I have never heard that those who are diligent will become beggars, but I know that idle fellows will become beggars. Be diligent, because I believe that it is the mother of success.

 

 

The prosperity of a nation depends on the development of education. Any development in science and technology, throughout the world is due to the development of education which brings up scientists and inventors. It is difficult to emphasis just how important the role of education is. There is no doubt that countries with undeveloped education will remain poor.

Education is also vital to the development of an individual. Of all elements of success in our careers none is more important that education. It is not genius but the knowledge that makes the difference between success and failure. In fact most of the famous people of our times spent many years studying. Can you name any great man you admire who are not well educated?

Some people however are still ignorant of the importance of education. Some parents, especially those in the countryside, think it unnecessary to send their children to school. Some parents have their children work for money at a very young age. In viewing of this, compulsory education must be enforced to see to it that every young people will have the chance to have adequate education.

 

 

Most of us is inclined to think that it is difficult to spend our leisure properly. When we have holidays, we usually feel bored and, do not know what to do. Some may indulge in out-door games all day long, while others may stay in bed to venture in the dreamland.

Actually, this is quite natural since, in out daily life, we do things more or less in accordance with an unwritten daily routine in our mind. For example, when we are at college, we go to class in the morning, have lunch at noon, take physical exercises in the afternoon, do our homework in the evening. Gradually and accordingly, we get used to the plan in our mind. And once we have holidays, we don’t have to carry out this routine. So we are at a complete loss.

Here are some suggestions, but what is important, is to have recreations!

If you are an active person, you can go for a picnic, or play some sports games. The fresh air and the fascinating scenery in the countryside may refresh you and the amusing games may make you happier.

If you are not so active and like to stay at home, you may turn on the tape recorder to enjoy light music or, read a few novels otherwise. Indoor games such as chess, playing cards, table tennis and hobbies such as gardening, keeping pets are also enjoyable.

After relaxed with such games, we shall feel much happier and more energetic. It is better for us to find some time to review our lessons and get prepared for the new semester to start. When holidays are finished, we can return to school in high spirit.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

English is among the most difficult subjects to learn. First, English pronunciation is quite different from that of Chinese. Second, it has a large vocabulary. Finally, English idioms and idiomatic usages are really troublesome. They are usually not grammatical, and even if they are grammatical, you may fail to arrive at their meaning.

Learning English well requires painstaking efforts. At the beginning, you may find that today you have memorized some words and expressions, but tomorrow they are all gone. In writing, you may have a great deal to say, but you don’t know how to start. In reading, you may know every word, but when it comes to listening, you may feel quite confused. All this shows that to master English, we have to practice reading, listening, speaking and writing.

Once mastered, English is useful in many ways. You can read English books and other publications; you can talk to a native speaker; you can write a letter to your friend, etc. At international meetings, you can express yourself freely. In China, children begin to go to school at the age of seven. It takes six years for them to finish primary school. In this stage, they are taught elementary knowledge in language an science, which lays the foundation for their further education.

After primary school, they go to junior middle school without having to pass any exams. Education at this level is compulsory. It lasts for three years, during which the children learn basic Chinese, English, Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry.

When the junior middle school education comes to an end, the students are screened by exams in two ways. Those who expect to go to college may choose to enter senior middle school and those who want to work attend professional schools. The senior middle school education takes 3 years and the professional school 2 to 3 years.

The senior middle school graduates have to take competitive exams before they enter college. The college education lasts 4 to 6 years. For a bachelor degree, students take the four-year course and pass the defense of their theses. The master degree students have another two years of study and research work and are given their degree after the defense of their theses.

Nowadays many parents send their children to various classes in the children’s spare time. These classes can be classified into two categories. First, on school subject, their intention is to reinforce and enrich the children’s knowledge acquired in school by means of more clarification and exercises. Second, classes will cultivate children’s interest, such as classes in English, dancing, etc.

Children’s attending classes in their spare time has become a controversial issue. Those who are for it think that the practice is good for the long term benefit of children and can enlighten children’s interest, broaden their horizon. Those who are against it hold the view that children have been deprived of their free time by attending classes they are not interested and thus become mechanical learners, at the price of their own interest.

I think children should have the right to enjoy their childhood, and to play. But certain guidance by parents to attend some classes is necessary since the parents have reasoning power and experience to raise the children to be prepared for their future with diversified interest and competence. But these classes should be

Good health is very important to everyone. A healthy person can always be energetic and optimistic. Therefore, he finds life always enjoyable. An unhealthy person, on the other hand, is always sad and pessimistic. As a result, he can not achieve much success even though he is very well educated.

Sports help everyone to keep healthy. Physical exercises can increase the circulation of the blood. Hence, more oxygen is taken into and more waste is expelled out of the body. In addition, physical exercises can increase appetite and digestion. Moreover, Sports can make our minds sound. While playing, we take our minds off our work and study. As a result, our minds are relaxed.

Since sports can result in good health, we should have sports for a while every day no matter how busy we are. Only in this way can we be efficient in our work and study, and strong in our health.
